Florida A&M rallied from a 17–0 deficit and used a powerful ground game to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 27–17.
Bethune-Cookman controlled the early stages of the game, taking a 3–0 lead on a 33-yard field goal by Lynn Thompson. The Wildcats extended their advantage to 10–0 on a 1-yard run by Leverett, then struck again when Robert Oliver found Stacy Charles for a 43-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter.
From there, the momentum shifted sharply in FAMU’s favor.
Albert Chester ignited the Rattlers’ rally with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Wyman Daniels shortly before halftime. Chester later connected with Chris Douglas on a 7-yard scoring pass early in the second half, trimming the deficit to 17–14.
FAMU’s run game then asserted itself. Delaine capped a long drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Rattlers the lead, and Mike Solomon added a 2-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to finish off a stretch of 27 unanswered points.
The Rattlers relied heavily on the rushing attack, piling up 221 yards on the ground. Ike Williams led the effort with 134 yards on 15 carries. Chester completed five passes for 115 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Defensively, FAMU tightened after falling behind early, limiting Bethune-Cookman to 217 total yards and just 11 first downs. James McMullen paced the Wildcats with 78 rushing yards on 17 carries, while Nevaughn Norris completed four passes for 46 yards.
Florida A&M’s second-half surge secured the comeback victory and added another chapter to the storied rivalry between the two programs.
