Florida A&M controlled the matchup from start to finish, using a fast start and a balanced offensive attack to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 41–20, in the 2022 Florida Blue Florida Classic at Camping World Stadium.
The Rattlers set the tone in the first quarter with two touchdowns: a 5-yard scoring run from Jeremy Moussa and a 24-yard reverse touchdown from Xavier Smith, who later added a receiving score. FAMU continued its momentum in the second quarter as Jaylen McCloud powered in for touchdowns of 1 and 3 yards, helping the Rattlers take a 27–7 lead into halftime.
Bethune-Cookman attempted to climb back into the game behind the play of quarterback Jalon Jones, who threw touchdown passes to Kemari Averett and Marcus Riley. But the Wildcats were unable to close the gap, while the Rattlers delivered the decisive blows in the fourth quarter. Moussa connected with Smith on a 30-yard touchdown, and FAMU added a defensive score when Isaac Washington returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown.
Smith earned MVP honors after totaling 73 receiving yards, a receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown. Moussa completed 15 of 19 passes for 195 yards and two scores, while McCloud added two short rushing touchdowns.
Jones led BCU with 172 passing yards and 61 rushing yards, but turnovers and stalled drives prevented the Wildcats from keeping pace.
FAMU’s strong first half and timely fourth-quarter execution secured the victory and extended its momentum in the storied rivalry.
