Florida A&M leaned on the power and efficiency of running back Terrell Jennings to grind out a 24–7 win over Bethune-Cookman in the 2023 Florida Blue Florida Classic at Camping World Stadium.
The Rattlers struck first late in the opening quarter when Jaquez Yant capped a short drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. Jennings, who dominated throughout, added his first score early in the second quarter from 3 yards out, extending the lead to 14–0. FAMU pushed its advantage to 17–0 just before halftime on a 44-yard field goal from Cameron Gillis.
Bethune-Cookman’s lone breakthrough came midway through the third quarter when quarterback Walter Simmons III scrambled in from 7 yards out, cutting the deficit to 17–7. But the Wildcats’ offense stalled the rest of the way, as turnovers and pressure from the FAMU defense halted multiple drives.
Jennings delivered the knockout blow in the fourth quarter, breaking loose for a 35-yard touchdown run—his third score of the game—to put the Rattlers back ahead by three possessions and seal the win.
Jennings earned MVP honors with a dominant performance, rushing for 195 yards on 26 carries and scoring all three FAMU touchdowns. Quarterback Jeremy Moussa efficiently managed the offense, completing 14 of 21 passes for 150 yards.
FAMU finished with 325 total yards, including 175 on the ground. BCU managed 234 total yards but struggled in the passing game, with Simmons completing just nine of 24 attempts and throwing one interception. Jimmie Robinson III led the Wildcats with 74 rushing yards, while Daveno Ellington had two receptions for 60 yards.
The Rattlers’ physical running game, timely defense and Jennings’ standout showing powered them to another Florida Classic victory.
